Tyzen Hsiao (1938–2015) was one of Taiwan’s most influential composers and is often referred to as the “Rachmaninoff of Taiwan.” Rooted deeply in the land and emotions of the Taiwanese people, his music beautifully blends Western classical compositional techniques with distinctive Taiwanese melodic elements, creating a voice that is both gentle and powerful. With profound humanistic spirit, strong cultural identity, and highly recognizable lyrical melodies, Hsiao composed many moving works that have been widely performed and cherished in Taiwan and abroad.
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Tyzen Hsiao demonstrated remarkable musical talent from an early age and devoted himself to music studies and composition. After receiving his early education in Taiwan, he pursued further training in the United States, gradually shaping a broader and more refined compositional language.
